After the Christmas and New Year's holidays, the 1. C-RLT BAW E/D U11-U19 2025 kicked off the 2025 BW youth tournament season last weekend in Dossenheim. Unfortunately, illness have kept Tobias Walch (U19) out of the game. Our young player Ruixiang Wang had to fight alone. Starting this year Ruixiang has officially moved up to the U13 age group, which means he will face more experienced and stronger opponents. While playing against U13 age group opponents was not new to him, a new challenge is to play on a "small game" format.

The singles started on Saturday morning. At 9:30 a.m., 14 players in the U13 age group started the elimination rounds on time. The first round opponent is Max Aldinger from TSG Heilbronn. In the most recent tournament Ruixiang won easily. However, the first set on a "small court - box" made both players nervous, but Ruixiang gradually adapted to the court in the second set and finally entered the next round with 24:22 and 21:12.

In the quarterfinal round, although Ruixiang won the first set 21:19, it was defeated in the second and third sets, losing 13:21 and 14:21, and had to go for the 5th-8th place. After a 43 minutes final battle, Ruixiang finally finished the last match 18:21/22:20/17:21 and placed eighth. Overall, "small game" is a new experience and challenge for all players. Limited by the court, the players were unable to implement the tactics of close-net drop and back court end clear.

After a night's rest, the doubles match began on Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. In the AK U13, four pairs of players competed in the group system. Due to the illness of his previous partner, Ruixiang had to form a temporary pair (his partner from TURA Niederhöchstadt Junfei Zhang) to compete. Obviously there was a clear gap between this combination and the 1st/2nd ranked pairings in the group, and their hope was to win another match and compete for the third place. This was a nail-biting match with the scores alternating between the two pairs. But luck seemed to favor the other pair, and after nearly an hour of play, Ruixiang's combo finished 26:24/20:22/23:25... what a pitty, isn't it.

Despite the results, Ruixiang is still excited about the start of the new season and enjoying every game. A bigger challenge await him and the other PSV youth players in next weekend, good luck to them!
